The Constitution Prevails: Census Bureau $$$ are Safe; Non-Citizens Win!
The U.S. Senate did the right thing and invoked cloture on the appropriations bill for Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS). The vote effectively ended attempts by Senate Republicans David Vitter (LA) and Robert Bennett (UT) to add an amendment that would have stopped the 2010 Census dead in its tracks and included what could have been a potentially disastrous question to the Census form regarding citizenship and immigration status.
USHLI thanks everyone who contacted their respective Senators and urged them to vote for cloture and to stop the Vitter-Bennett amendment. USHLI now calls on the Senate to move quickly on passage of the CJS appropriations bill.
